Why do liberals hate OIL?

I am not even a little angry about it. i do not want to be giving money to terrorists for it. The problem I have is that even though it would be profitable there is no reason for oil companies to develop our oil shale in Colorado. That would take government intervention because capitalism make them get the cheapest oil regardless of what is strategically best for us.
