Why is it that in almost every sibling rivalry story the older sibling is the evil one?

If you're talking about fiction, I would venture a guess that youth represents innocence and therefore would be the victim in the sibling rivalry. People who are older are sometime represented as being bitter and jaded, while young people are considered optimistic and open to new ideas.
