Why was the American Containment policy unsuccessful?

Well you're wrong, the policy was successful. We won in Korea and the Cuban Missile Crisis . What about Greece, Turkey, Israel, Afghanistan, South America, etc.? We succeeded in containing communism there as well. Now that there are no great power proponents of communism, nobody cares, because it's no longer a threat.
